뉴럴링크는 2016년 머스크가 창업한 기업으로 뇌에 이식하는 칩을 개발하고 있다.

사지 마비 혹은 하반신 마비 환자 등 거동이 불편한 환자의 뇌에 칩을 이식해 생각만으로 컴퓨터 사용이 가능하도록 한다는 계획이다.

한편 BCI란 인간의 뇌와 컴퓨터를 연결하는 차세대 신기술이다. 뇌파 형태로 전달되는 두뇌 속 전기신호를 분석해 로봇이나 전자기기를 조작한다. 미국, 유럽에서는 BCI의 재활치료 응용연구가 국내보다 앞서 진행되며 환자 적용 경험 축적, 임상적 효과 보고 등이 이루어지고 있다.
